Connecting 3CX with bhomy
Set up your agent as a SIP destination in 3CX and route specific calls to it, for example when no one answers, outside opening hours or at the end of a queue.
In a 3CX phone system, you connect bhomy as an additional SIP trunk. The phone system then decides when a call goes to your agent: always, after a waiting time, when busy or outside opening hours. Your numbers and your provider stay as they are.
Requirements
- a 3CX phone system with access to the admin console
- in bhomy, the number under which your agent should be reachable, see SIP numbers. Enter the number there that 3CX sends as the destination when forwarding
Creating bhomy as a trunk in 3CX
- In the 3CX admin console, open the SIP trunks and create a new trunk of the type Generic SIP Trunk, without registration, that is IP-based.
- As the registrar or server, enter the Destination address (origination) from the bhomy dashboard, hostname only, port 5060.
- If you've turned on Secure incoming calls in bhomy, enter the username and password from bhomy as the trunk's credentials. Registration isn't needed.
- Set the codec to G.711, PCMA or PCMU.
- Set the caller ID so that the original caller's number is sent along.
- Save the trunk.
Routing calls to the agent
Define which calls go through the bhomy trunk. There are three common ways:
| Goal | Setting in 3CX |
|---|---|
| All calls to a number | In the number's inbound rule, choose an external number as the destination and route it to the bhomy trunk with an outbound rule |
| Only when no one answers | In the queue or ring group, choose the agent's external number as the destination on timeout |
| Outside opening hours | In the inbound rule, choose the agent's external number for the time outside office hours |
The outbound rule makes sure that calls to the agent's number run through the bhomy trunk and not through your normal provider.
The agent's outbound calls
For outbound calls, your agent doesn't call via 3CX but via your SIP provider or an imported number. For this, enter your provider's termination address and credentials in bhomy, if your provider accepts calls with credentials and without registration.
From the agent back to your team
Transfer connects to a phone number of your team. If your agent calls a number that is itself forwarded back to the agent, the caller ends up with the agent again. So use an extension or number that rings directly with people.
Testing
- Call your number and let the call run into the case you've set up, for example without answering.
- Your agent answers. In bhomy, the status changes to Active, and the Call History shows the caller's number.
Common problems
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| No audio or audio in one direction only | Check NAT, firewall and SIP ALG, see SIP |
| The call history shows your phone system's number | Set the caller ID to the original caller's number |
| Calls are rejected | The number in bhomy must match exactly the destination number that 3CX sends |
