Connect a phone number
Buy a number, connect your own number via SIP or import it as caller ID, assign it to the agent and set up call forwarding.
Your agent is reachable through a phone number. You can buy a new number from us, keep your existing number, or combine both. You manage all numbers under Phone Number in the dashboard.
Which option suits you?
| You want to … | Option | Direction |
|---|---|---|
| start right away without changing anything | Buy a number | inbound |
| keep your well-known number, without any technical setup | Set up call forwarding to a number you bought | inbound |
| connect your number directly through your provider or your phone system | Connect a SIP number | inbound and outbound |
| make outbound calls with your number while inbound stays with your provider | Import a number | outbound |
Buy a number
- Open Phone Number and click Add number › Buy number.
- Pick a number from the list. You can filter by country or search for an area code in the search field.
- Click Buy. The number appears in your list right away.
- Open the number's Settings and select your agent under Agent for this number.
Numbers you buy are local geographic numbers and accept inbound calls. For outbound calls you use an imported number or a number connected via SIP.
| Plan | Included | Each additional number |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | 1 number | €6 per month |
| Pro | 2 numbers | €5 per month |
| Individual | on request | on request |
All prices are net plus VAT. We bill additional numbers through your subscription.
Cancel a number
Cancel in the list returns a number you bought. It is released immediately, inbound calls stop and the monthly cost ends right away. Someone else can acquire a released number. So only cancel once no forwarding and no marketing material points to it anymore.
Set up call forwarding
With call forwarding you keep your existing number. Your provider forwards calls to your bhomy number, permanently or only in certain cases:
| Case | Typical use |
|---|---|
| Always | The agent answers every call, your phone does not ring |
| After a few seconds without an answer | You pick up yourself when you can, otherwise the agent takes over |
| When busy | The agent takes over while you are on the phone |
| When unreachable | Your phone is off or has no signal |
The generator creates the right codes or the click path for your line:
Step 1: Number of your bhomy agent
Choose the country and enter the number as shown in the dashboard under Phone number.
Numbers starting with + or 00 are recognised as well.
Step 2: Your provider
Who provides the number you want to forward?
Step 3: What would you like to set up?
Choose one or more cases. We only generate the codes you need.
Step 4: Dial the code
Enter the code on your phone like a number and press call. The confirmation appears on the screen.
- On an iPhone, type the code yourself. iOS does not dial codes with * and # from the browser.
- Forwarding replaces your voicemail for the same case.
- Whether forwarded calls cost anything depends on your plan.
- Then call your number from another phone. Your agent answers, and the call appears in the call history.
- Forwarding only outside your business hours is set up in the phone system, router or with your provider, not in bhomy.
How to check the forwarding:
- Call your well-known number from another phone.
- Depending on the case you chose: let it ring, decline the call or switch off your mobile.
- Your agent answers. The Call History shows the call with the caller's number.
Connect a SIP number
If your telephony provider or phone system supports SIP, you connect your number directly. It stays with your provider, calls reach your agent without a detour, and your agent can also make outbound calls with it.
- Open Phone Number › Add number › Connect SIP number.
- Enter the number in international format, exactly as your system sends it, for example
+49401234567. - Enter the displayed Destination address (origination) with your provider. It is also available as a full SIP URI.
- Optional: turn on Secure incoming calls. We generate a username and password that your system sends with every call. You only see the password once.
- Optional, for outbound calls: enter your provider's Termination address, Username and Password.
- Click Connect number and assign an agent to the number.
- Call the number. The status changes from Waiting for first call to Active as soon as the first call has arrived.
Before your agent makes outbound calls with the number, you confirm that it belongs to you: we call it and read out a six-digit code that you enter in the dashboard. Guides for individual providers and systems are under SIP phone systems.
Import a number
You want to call out with your well-known number, for example for appointment reminders or campaigns, but not change anything for inbound calls? Then you import it as caller ID.
- Open Phone Number › Add number › Import number.
- Enter your German landline or mobile number in international format and optionally pick an agent.
- Click Call me now. Our telephony provider calls you and reads out a code.
- Enter the code and click Confirm.
An imported number costs €5 net per month from confirmation, charged pro rata, plus call charges at cost price. Inbound calls keep arriving at your provider. All details: Import a number.
Assign a number to an agent
Each number belongs to exactly one agent. An agent can have several numbers, for example one per location.
- In the list, click Settings next to the number.
- Select the agent under Agent for this number. Don't assign removes the assignment.
- Optional: give the number a name, for example "Head office Hamburg".
The Usage column shows what a number is used for: Inbound, Outbound or both. An imported number shows Confirmation pending until it is confirmed.
Frequently asked questions
Can I port my number to bhomy?
Porting is not necessary. With call forwarding or a SIP connection your number stays with your provider, and your agent is still reachable under it.
Which number does the caller see with forwarding?
The caller dials your well-known number and does not notice the forwarding. In the call history you usually see their number. Whether it is transmitted depends on their line and your provider.
How many calls can a number take at the same time?
That does not depend on the number but on your plan: 1 call at a time on the Starter plan, 3 on the Pro plan and 3 on the Individual plan. Further callers hear a waiting announcement, see Technical basics.
